2022-23 Cold Weather Shelter Recap

Dear friends,
Last month, CMPC joined in service once again with our community partners in support of the
Grassroots Cold Weather Shelter. The Cold Weather Shelter is a partnership with faith
communities and the Howard County government, and provides overflow shelter from
November through March. Traditionally, congregations host the shelter for one or two weeks
and provide volunteers for transportation, meals, laundry and to work shifts in the shelter.
Grassroots provides administrative coordination and a staff person to act as the team leader
during the hours that the shelter is open. This season, the shelter is again hosted at the local
Extended Stay America.
Continuing our long-standing tradition, CMPC supported CWS from December 26 th through
January 2 nd with pre-packaged breakfasts and lunches, hot dinners, and meal delivery each
evening. This season saw a marked increase in need and our wonderful community of
volunteers gave their time and cooking talents to make certain each guest was offered three
meals each day. During our week of service CMPC cooked, packaged, and delivered 250
breakfasts, 250 lunches, and over 300 hot dinners. Almost 30 CMPC families volunteered during
this year’s shelter program. Thank you for the great gift you have given to these children of
God.
