The Session supported the recommendation of the CMPC Reopening Task Force to continue the building closure until Dec. 1. The building status will be reviewed in the interim should any pertinent changes be made to task force recommendations or governmental policy.
In other business:
- Citing coronavirus concerns, the Session voted down a request by the Fellowship Committee of the Board of Deacons for access to church restrooms during two upcoming outdoor events being planned on church property and recommended renting portable units instead.
- The Session approved a fundraising campaign by “Friends of Hyiwot” to assist Elder and longtime church member Hyiwot Teshome with his seminary expenses. CMPC is not a sponsor of this group, and will only be involved in distributing their solicitation letter and providing them with a means of collecting donations.
- Virtual celebration of communion was approved for Oct. 11. Details to come.
- Also, at a Sept. 15 special meeting called solely to discuss and vote on a motion from the Christian Education Committee on behalf of Christ Memorial Christian Preschool, the Session approved an exemption to the building closure to allow teaching staff limited weekend access to the preschool area only during fall and winter to film virtual lessons for students.
