The session met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 20th. The evening began with a joint gathering of the elders and deacons for a brief bible study focused on Luke 4: 1-13 (the Temptation of Jesus). After the bible study the two boards began their separate meetings.
The session welcomed members of the Ministry Expansion Committee for a significant update. Bob Jenkins (chair of the Ministry Expansion Committee) brought the session up to speed on where we are in the process with the project and advised the session that it would need to make some decisions before the project can continue. The session anticipates making those decisions in the next few weeks and months and plans to bring an update to the congregation as soon as some more information is secured. The session was and is very grateful for all of the hard work of the Ministry Expansion Committee.
Through the consent agenda the session approved the minutes of previous meetings as well as some upcoming baptisms.
Pastor Hoffman thanked the session for its support through the difficult time for he and his family over the last few months and shared some upcoming dates he plans to be away.
The session also heard a report on a personnel matter from the preschool.
A follow-up conversation on the issue of same-sex marriage (which began as part of the officers’ retreat in January) was tabled until the April meeting as the hour was getting late and members of the session felt that it would be better to discuss this important matter when minds and spirits were more “fresh”.
The meeting concluded with prayer after the sharing of joys and concerns.
As always, if you have any questions for the session please feel free to contact Pastor Hoffman or any of the members (listed on the church website).
