In the Children’s Message in worship on Sunday, the children were given a “Flat Jesus” to color and then take with them to the pool, playground, beach, visiting friends and family, and anywhere else they are going this summer. They were encouraged to take pictures with Jesus and post to social media (as parents are willing) using the hashtag #cmpcflatjesus. Jesus goes with us everywhere and this is a reminder of that as well as a way of keeping us connected over the summer.
This project was started by an Episcopal Church in Michigan and has since spread around the world. It was based on a children’s book about Flat Stanley and the way teachers used the character to help children have fun connecting with each other by taking Flat Stanley figures with them during the day and sharing pictures of his adventures.
Our CMPC Flat Jesus Project isn’t just for the kids! People of all ages can take pictures of their travels with Jesus this summer. You’ll find Flat Jesus in a stack outside of Pastor Scott’s office, or you can download one here. Pick one up, color him, and start your adventures!
