CMPC’s new partners in mission work, The Reverend Michael Weller and his wife Rachel visited our church this past weekend. The couple serves in Ethiopia with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). Reverend Weller led us in Sunday service with a very powerful sermon of Christ-like love and the fulfillment of God’s promise.
After the service, a reception was hosted by the Mission and Local Outreach Committee. Pastor Hoffman introduced the couple and their work and invited Mrs. Rachel Weller to give a presentation on the work that the Wellers are doing in the Gambella region of Ethiopia, and what CMPC and its members might be helping with to further the work they have already started.
Mrs. Weller shared stories of helping with starting and expanding health clinics and centers – from working on wounds to building latrines and providing clean, drinkable water to the local population – and ministering to people of different ethnic groups with different cultures and local languages.
The reception was also attended by Pastor Ding Gach of the West Gambella Synod (who had just arrived for his first visit to the United States ever) and Doug Sensabaugh of the Shenandoah Presbytery—representative of the Ethiopia Mission Network.
We are indebted to the efforts of the Mission and Local Outreach committee and its members, especially Don Mitchell, Chair of the committee and the official host of the Wellers over the weekend. Special thanks also to the very able Elise Jordan, party organizer extraordinaire who organized a reception for the Wellers on Saturday evening where they were given the opportunity to meet elders, deacons, members of the Mission and Local Outreach Committee and church staff.
