50th Anniversary Quilt
Last August, a group of women got together to plan the 50th Anniversary of our church. In order for our plans to come to fruition, we knew we needed to raise money for the event. Fund raising is a tough job. I only had one idea and that was to make a quilt. Making a quilt was not a project I was willing to tackle myself. I looked to my friends, Eleanor Orndorff and Jane Wade, experienced quilters, for help. Jane carefully chose the pattern from a book that Eleanor Burns published, Day Night Quilts. We decided that making a queen size quilt would appeal to many people. We took a day and went to a couple of quilt shops to find the "perfect" fabric. In order for the quilt to appeal to both genders, we choose the color blue.
Every quilt has a name (and a story). Choosing a name for our quilt was critical. We asked the Prayer Shawls ladies for their input. We asked other quilting friends to vote on their favorite titles. Finally, we chose, "Yesterday, Today and Forever" which was submitted by our Associate Pastor, Craig Barton. His suggestion was based on a Bible verse. How clever!
Eleanor, Jane and I set up shop and started to sew and sew and sew. With three different people cutting, sewing, and pressing we were challenged to have all of our points match. But match they did! We agreed that Jessica Noonan, an experienced quilter, would machine quilt it for us. Jessica used her creative flair to create movement through the quilt. We were very pleased and proud of how the quilt turned out.
The drawing for the quilt will be held on April 25, 2010. The lucky winner will take home a quilt created with love and joy. We hope that the quilt will bring many years of enjoyment and pleasure to a very special family.
Tickets will be available before and after the Sunday morning service from Jane Wade, Eleanor Orndorff or myself. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. On the back of the ticket is a coupon for Pizza Hut pizza. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Colleen Hughes by email at
