Helping Up Mission

Founded in 1885, Helping Up Mission (HUM) is a non-denominational Christian organization with the goal of offering permanent solutions to homelessness and addiction. HUM is privately funded by individuals, churches, community organizations, corporations, and foundations.

The Mission has two main programs. The first is their Emergency Overnight Services program which provides two meals, a shower, clean clothes and a bed to an average of 50 men each night. The second program is the Spiritual Recovery Program, a 12-month residential program that serves over 400 men. This program addresses all aspects required for the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual rehabilitation of the residents.

Christ Memorial has financially supported HUM in the past through gifts from the Mission Committee budget and the generous contributions of the congregation through the 2009 Souper Bowl of Caring offering.

In addition, CMPC members participated in HUM's Hope Tote Campaign by filling purple bags with basic supplies the mission needs on a daily basis. A total of forty-five bags were filled and delivered to Helping Up. We will continue to support this annual campaign in the coming years.

On Saturday, March 21, 2009, thirteen members of CMPC visited Helping Up and received a full tour, heard testimony from a program graduate, and served dinner while visiting with the men living there. Everyone came away awed by the amazing ministry being done by Helping Up. Future opportunities for group visits will be arranged.
