Bethel Free Health Clinic
CMPC Volunteers celebrated the opening and Dedication of the Bethel Free Clinic where they worked along with many volunteers cooperating with the Bethel Lutheran Church where the Clinic started a few days after Katrina. The church gave up their library, some Sunday School rooms and part of the nursery to provide space for them. (See the Bethel Free Clinic web site ). After using the church building for nearly a year, they moved to a police substation rented by the local Housing Authority as temporary quarters while the current residence was being renovated and added onto through grants. Now residents of the area who are uninsured and have no means of obtaining medical care have access to medical care locally. Through 2008, with the help of "at least" 267 providers , 568 nurses, 177 student nurses and 405 volunteers with other skills, the clinic has provided treatment for "at least" 24,180 clinic visits.
